It started with a dance…
After winning a bid on Ballroom dance lessons at a Red Cross Charity Ball in 2013, it’s safe to say Frank and Bonnie Glazer fell in love with the scene! After completing their initial course, the pair wondered where they were going to utilize their newfound skillset. After searching around, Bonnie and Frank found the Wightman School, DJ Bobby D, and a new home to dance the nights away and make lifelong friends. Over the years, the couple has maintained a schedule of dancing, five to six nights a week, all over the area. Their favorite nights still consist of Motown Mondays and Ballroom Thursdays at the Wightman School, where Bistro To-Go had the pleasure of catering their 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Bonnie and Frank Glazer love to dance on cruise ships, and if the dance floor is too full on one, they don’t mind the ceramic floor located in front of the guest relations area. “It’s all about the floor, very important” they say! The pair also spends two to three evenings a month working with the Pittsburgh Ballroom Senior Outreach program, where they visit a senior residence, dance, and get lunch! They are part of four local clubs in all, including the Steel City Boogie Club.
In 2019, before the Covid Pandemic struck, Frank Glazer pioneered the very first Pittsburgh Alzheimer’s and Dementia focused “Music, Memory and Dance” program. The concept was to find groups of individuals living with these setbacks and engage them by providing headsets where they would listen to their favorite tunes from their era. This got their feet tapping, fingers snapping, and ready to dance! After pairing them with a partner in the program, and a three-month, one hour a week rehearsal schedule, the participants were able to put on a recital where friends and family would gather and watch them showcase their memories through dance! The program went so well, Frank was able to pick back up where he left off, and last May was able to continue to give the gift of memories through “Music, Memory and Dance”.
“You have changed my life!” has been one of the most rewarding compliments to come to Bonnie and Frank’s ears through their program work, and they love being of service. I think it’s safe to say the world of dance has contributed greatly to their now 50-year union, and they will create many more memories for not only themselves, but for others as well, in the years to come. Bistro To-Go is forever grateful to have been a part of this one! Happy Anniversary Frank and Bonnie!
