Kayla Wasik’s path to becoming the wedding coordinator at Bistro To Go was anything but traditional. With a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and history, specializing in archaeology, she once spent her time on digs out West. But after working in retail operations, she was ready for a change. In 2019, living just a block from Bistro on Pittsburgh’s North Side, she joined the team as a server despite never having served before. From there, she worked events, managed logistics during COVID and gradually moved into an internal administrative role. Today, she guides couples through nearly every step of their wedding catering journey.
Wasik often serves as the first point of contact, gathering details and preparing custom quotes that match each couple’s vision and budget. A hallmark of the Bistro experience is the individualized tasting. Rather than offering a limited or group format, the team prepares each couple’s selected menu in full, including appetizers, grazing displays and more. This creates what she describes as a “mini wedding experience” tailored specifically to them. The feedback, she says, consistently highlights both the tasting and the warmth of the team.
Her role extends beyond menus. Wasik coordinates with rental companies, bartenders, planners and venues. She emphasizes the importance of trusted partnerships and clear communication, especially on high-pressure wedding days. Wasik focuses on the behind-the-scenes details that allow the broader team to execute seamlessly. The reward lies in helping create a day couples will remember for the rest of their lives.
